Artist Statement for Work from 2009

The idea of creating and denying logical space and action through a series of simple shapes, patterns, and figures is what drives my work. I am interested in representing this idea through the world of competition and games with actions and spatial relationships that contradict existing functions. My figures and structures are used as tools to create implausible ideas and scale that challenge the existing rules of competition and space. As a former athlete, I use knowledge of sport regulations and past experiences as sources. My interest is in challenging the regulations.
